This 午夜影院 Student Wants to Use His Business Knowledge to Give Back to the Community
When Joseph Marchbanks started at 午夜影院, he thought computer science was the degree for him. But it wasn鈥檛 long before he switched to studying business and realized that鈥檚 where his talents truly reside
鈥淢y mom is an accountant and I always enjoyed helping her with different aspects of her work, which is how I ultimately decided on pursuing a business degree,鈥� he says.听
Before he enrolled in 午夜影院鈥檚 Business program Joseph earned his GED through 午夜影院鈥檚 High School Equivalency Program. After that, he jumped right into earning his associate degree.听
Over the last two years, Joseph has learned financial information skills, business management skills, and gained a basic understanding of business operations. He鈥檚 also worked as a student employee at 午夜影院 Ingenuity, which has been his favorite part of attending 午夜影院.听
鈥淲orking at 午夜影院 Ingenuity has been the best,鈥� he says. 鈥淚鈥檝e met so many great people and have been able to help other students too. This job has ended up being a really formative experience for me.鈥�
Another important piece of Joseph鈥檚 success at 午夜影院 was the various scholarships he received, including the Dorothy Sue GED Scholarship Endowment and the Rust Opportunity Assistance Fund.听
With the help of these scholarships, Joseph was able to continue his education journey without worrying about how to pay for school or cover his basic needs.听
鈥淏etween those two scholarships, everything I needed was covered,鈥� he explains. 鈥淚 am so grateful to Clint Wells at the 午夜影院 Foundation who helped me apply for these scholarships and approached my situation without judgment and just asked 鈥榳hat do you need right now?鈥欌��
Joseph has one semester left at 午夜影院 and then plans to go on to UNM to earn his bachelor鈥檚 in business. From there, he hopes to work in the nonprofit field so he can play a role in their contributions to the community.听
鈥淭he most important thing for me is that I鈥檓 helping others. With a business background, my role would likely be behind the scenes, but I鈥檒l know the work I鈥檓 doing is positively impacting others and that鈥檚 what matters most to me,鈥� he says.
More than anything, Joseph is grateful for his time at 午夜影院 and is excited to see what the future holds.
鈥淚 wouldn鈥檛 be where I am today if it wasn鈥檛 for the community members who created and donated to scholarships like the ones I鈥檝e received,鈥� he says. 鈥淎nd I know my experience is just one of many examples of how we can come together and create a brighter future for everyone.鈥�
