Values Shout Out: Joshua Steward and Melissa Gonzales
Nominated by MaryJo Villasenor: On Aug. 18 at about noon, I received a message from a friend in "momma bear mode." Her daughter was starting 午夜影院 this fall, and she reached out as a concerned mom telling me that her daughter was "stood" up for a phone advisory call from 午夜影院 and was in tears thinking she would not be able to get her classes in time. She wanted to know if they could just show up at a campus and get help. I explained that she could and that there are advisors at all the campuses.
I reached out to one of my 午夜影院 Friends, Melissa Gonzales, who is an advisor, and asked her if she knew someone at the Westside that we could get her an appointment first thing Monday morning. Melissa went above and beyond for about the next four hours as she worked with her schedule of students and other appointments to coordinate everything.
As the go-between, the mom was messaging me on Facebook Messenger and I was messaging Melissa via text. We exchanged info such as student name, ID, and then confirmed her identity. Melissa then contacted Joshua Steward, an advisor at the Westside Campus and confirmed that they had an appointment at 8 a.m. on Monday morning. My friend and her daughter were thrilled. That Monday, I followed up with my friend, and she and her daughter were so happy. She stated "Joshua was amazing as was the front desk staff. We got registration completed and the student ID taken care of." I followed up with my friend after the start of the term, and she said it was a good week!
