ҹӰԺ Governing Board Member Annette Chavez y De La Cruz Selected to Serve on Association of Community College Trustees Committee

ҹӰԺ New Mexico Community College (ҹӰԺ) Governing Board Vice Chair Annette Chavez y De La Cruz has been elected by the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) to serve a two-year term on the ACCT Western Region Nominating Committee. ACCT serves as the voice of community college leaders in Washington, D.C., advancing community college advocacy and governance education.

“Community Colleges are more important than ever to ensuring that every person who seeks higher education will be able to access and complete college,” said ACCT President and CEO Jee Hang Lee. “The ACCT Nominating Committee is charged with the great responsibility of guiding the national association’s governance, which makes important and influential decisions about federal-level advocacy and the education of board members throughout the United States. Chavez y De La Cruz’s proven leadership will be a valuable contribution to the vital work we have ahead of us.”

Chavez y De La Cruz has more than 31 years of combined experience in higher education and public education. She has been serving as an elected ҹӰԺ Governing Board member since March 2017. She worked at ҹӰԺ for 17 years before retiring, which included serving in the positions of South Valley Campus Director, Job Connection Services Director, Student Success Team Leader and Human Resources Representative. Before joining ҹӰԺ, she worked at Albuquerque Public Schools for 13 years, serving in several roles including Positions Analyst and Interim Substitute Services Coordinator.

The ACCT Nominating Committee will next meet in February, in conjunction with the 2023 .
