Pride Month Challenges

June is LGBTQ+ Pride month, so ÎçҹӰԺ’s LGBTQIA2S+ Advisory Board has some gentle Pride challenges for members of our campus community to implement in classrooms, meetings, and as part of your everyday routine. 

Week One Challenges

  • Challenge 1: Familiarize yourself with ÎçҹӰԺ’s so that you can share its content and resources with students and coworkers. 
  • Challenge 2: Learn where the three nearest universal access restrooms on your campus or in your building are located so you can give directions to anyone who might need to know.

Week Two Challenges

  • Challenge 1: For every meeting you facilitate in June take a minute to teach your team members how to insert pronouns in Zoom. for step-by-step instructions on how to add and share your pronouns on Zoom.
  • Challenge 2: If you'd like, add yourself to the Out/Allied list of Faculty & Staff! To be added, please contact the LGBTQIA2S+ Advisory Board via our Contact Form

Week Three Challenges

  • Challenge One: For faculty, review one of your syllabi to check for heteronormative and/or cisnormative language. You can follow this up by making a timeline to review the rest of your syllabi.
  • Challenge Two: For staff, review your team or department materials like webpages, brochures, forms, or other resources for heteronormative and/or cisnormative language. You can follow this up by making a timeline review all team or department materials 
  • Challenge Three: Determine a time (not in June) that you and your team can commit to attending a Safe Zone or Transgender Cultural Fluency training. 

Week Four Challenges

  • Challenge One: Read a book, article, or listen to a podcast about queer/trans issues, inclusivity, etc.
  • Challenge Two: During a meeting, start a conversation about what your department/team is doing to increase belonging for queer and transgender students, staff, and faculty
  • Challenge Three: Make a donation to the QÎçÒ¹Ó°Ôº foundation account or the DEI office. Donate now.

Week Five Challenges 

  • Challenge One: Consider what kinds of signs are visible in your office or cubicle space to signal LGBTQIA2S+ students and employees know they're safe and welcome
  • Challenge Two: If you have a shared workspace, consider what signs of welcome to LGBTQIA2S+ students and employees are visible and/or start a conversation with your officemates about what signs could be added to the workspace
  • Challenge Three: If you’ve enjoyed these challenges, make an agenda item for your next team meeting to discuss how you might implement any of these strategies in the future – or create your own!
